II(A) Proclamation – American Red Cross Month Agenda 03-16-04 Item II A center of Good od Lv a Proclamation WHEREAS, since September 11, 2001, our Homeland Security Advisory System that monitors the risk of terrorist attacks in our nations has been raised to "high" on four separate occasions. While we are fortunate that no terrorist acts have occurred during these periods, it is critical that all Americans and residents remain vigilant, prepared and ready to deter terrorist attacks; and WHEREAS, the American Red Cross of Central Florida has devoted itself to that goal- educating individuals, families, schools and businesses in the Central Florida Community about what they can do at each threat level of the federal alert system to strengthen our community's response in the event of future attacks and other disasters. The American Red Cross of Central Florida has unparalleled record of helping the residents of Central Florida prevent, prepare for, and respond to life-threatening emergencies by delivering relief services to victims of disaster; offering health and safety training such as first aid, CPR and aquatic lifesaving, to more than 39,790 people last year; providing emergency communication services to military families; and participating in international humanitarian projects that save lives in 2003; and WHEREAS, by joining the American Red Cross as a volunteer, course participant or instructor, contributor or donor, you can help make the Ocoee community safer. Last year, the Red Cross responded to 240 disasters in Central Florida, from home fires to floods, and traffic incidents. Now, Therefore: I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, do hereby proclaim, March 2004, as AMERICAN RED CROSS MONTH IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto have set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Ocoee, Florida to be affixed this 4th day of March 2004.
