V(E) Approval and Authorization for Replacement of K-9 Hanna, Transfer Monies From Small Equipment to Capitol Not to Exceed $6,500 and Waive the Bid/Quote Process Agenda 03-16-04 Mayor e Center of Good zit, Commission V E S. Scott Vandergrift .e. Danny Howell District 1 Scott Anderson, District 2 City Manager _. OR, Rusty Johnson, District 3 Jim Gleasonr l, Nancy J. Parker, District 4 STAFF REPORT TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners FROM: Steven J. Goclon, Chief of Police DATE: March 3, 2004 RE: Replacement of K-9 Hana ISSUE Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the purchase of a K-9 replacement for an existing K-9 that will be retired this year. BACKGROUND The Ocoee Police Department K-9 Hana (a narcotics detection dog) has been serving the citizens of Ocoee for approximately 6 years. As K-9 Hana approaches 9 years of age and has exhibited a significant decline in performance over the last several months, it is in the best interest of the community, the City, and Hana for her to be retired from active road use. Although she can no longer withstand several hours a day of riding in a patrol car, she can still be used for public relations demonstrations at schools and special events. Her replacement would take over the narcotics detection duties. Savings in small equipment purchases have provided spare monies in account # 5230 (Small Equipment). RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve this request to transfer monies from Small Equipment to Capital not to exceed $6500 and to purchase a replacement K-9 with that money. As each dog is different and there are so few vendors of police K-9's, it is requested that the bid/quote process be waived.
