ISSUE
Should the City Commission select American Paving Contractors to expand the existing boat
trailer parking lot?
BACKGROUND & DISCUSSION:
The City was awarded a Boater's Improvement Grant in the amount of $64,000.00 to expand
the existing boat trailer parking lot located on Lakeshore Drive.
The bid was advertised on January 27, 2002, and publicly opened on February 20, 2002.
Responses were received from the following companies:
I) American Paving Contractors $44,387.00
2) Schuller Contractors $55,000.00
3) APEC, Inc. $56,643.00
4) Gibbs & Register $61,900.00
5) PLAN Estimating Service $67,392.00
6) Cathcart Contracting $70,200.00
7) Price Construction $73,785.00
8) U.S. Brick & Block Non-Responsive
Attached is a copy of the bid from American Paving Contractors along with the bid tabulation
sheet. Copies of all bids are available in the Finance Department for your review.
The bids were reviewed by the Public Works and Finance Departments. Sta f recommends
awarding the bid to American Paving Contractors as the most responsive a responsible
bidder, per the attached memo from Bob Smith, Public Works Director. n

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It respectfully is recommended that the City Commission award Bid #B02-03 to American
Paving Contractors, and authorize execution of the agreement between the City and American
Paving Contractors by the Mayor and City Clerk and further authorize the Mayor, City Clerk and
Staff to execute all documents necessary to consummate the transaction contemplated by the
agreement.

1) Clear and grub existing dirt and surface vegetation as needed for new construction
and dispose of offsite.
2) Grade site to match existing parking lot and curb line.
3) Compact soil to 95 %density.
4) Furnish and install TURF BLOCK pavers in an area approx. 312' x 50' as specified.
5) Fill paver voids with clean fill &broom off excess fill and dispose.
6) Leave 10' unpaved circle around existing oak trees and cut pavers for a tight fit
around existing water meter boxes.
