BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION On December 2, 2003, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2003-24, amending the membership requirements to allow three (3) non-resident members if the following requirements are meet: 1. The non-resident is a parent or guardian of a student and that student attends a school which other Ocoee students attend; or 2. The non-resident is a staff member at a school which Ocoee student attends. Ms. Huebsch's child attends Thornebrooke Elementary School. The Education Commission currently has one (1) non-resident member, Heidi Koch, whose children attend Lakeview Middle School and Lake Whitney Elementary School. Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commission appoint Ms. Huebsch to the Education Commission, she would be the second non-resident member on the Education Commission and her term would expire August 2004. Parker.District 4 STAFF REPORT TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners FROM: Jean Grafton, City Clerk DATE: April 7, 2004 RE: Appointment to General Employees Pension Board ISSUE Should the City Commission appoint Mary Anne Swickerath as the fifth trustee for the General Employees' Retirement Trust Fund? BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION Trustees for the Pension Boards serve two-year terms. Two of the trustees are appointed by the City Commission, two are elected from the employee body, and the fifth trustee is chosen by those four trustees and presented to the City Commission for certification of the appointment as a ministerial act. At the February 11, 2004, board meeting of the General Employees' Retirement Trust Fund, Pat Cornell, the fifth trustee, resigned effective immediately from her term that ends September 30, 2004. In a meeting duly noticed, the Trustees met March 17 to choose their fifth member. The Board elected to submit to this Commission the name of Mary Anne Swickerath, Editor of the West Orange Times. The Board requests that this appointment be to complete the existing term that ends September 30, 2004, and to extend through the next term which will end September 30, 2006. RECOMMENDATION The Trustees of the General Employees' Retirement Trust Fund respectfully request this Commission to certify the appointment of Mary Anne Swickerath to complete Mrs. Cornell's term and to serve a term ending September 30, 2006.
