SUBJECT: Purchase of Generators
The Utilities Department has been authorized in the 2002-2003 budget to purchase a portable
generator and trailer and a stationary generator for Lift Station 416. Staff would like to waive
the formal bid process and piggyback on the attached contracts from Orange County and Polk
County.
The portable generator will he included with the Citys consolidated equipment lease. It is rated
at 100 kW and the purchase amount is $27,300.00. The amount allocated in the budget is
S45,000.00. The stationary generator at Lift Station #16 is rated at 80 kW and will be a straight
purchase in the amount of S22,652.00. The budgeted amount for this generator is S32,000.00.
Both generators are well within the budgeted amount.
The expected delivery date is 8-10 weeks from the date the purchase order is received.
I recommend that the City Commission authorize the use of these funds from of the 2002-2003
Wastewater CIP fund to purchase these generators. based on the contracts by Polk and Orange
Counties, and authorize the Utilities Department to proceed.

SPECIFICATIONS
Completely factory assembled engine, generator, radiator, controls and enclosure.
• Engine: Water-cooled in line, four-cycle compression ignition diesel turbo charged.
Naturally aspirated engines will not be accepted.
• Engine Size: 6 cylinder, 1800 rpm maximum.
• Engine accessories: Dry type air cleaner, crankcase breather with external discharge, spin
on type oil and fuel filter,eight hours minimum full load day tank contained within genet,
fan blower type with fan drive. Engine coolant water pump, electric starting motor, 24
volt D.C. with safety circuit. Battery charging generator, oil pan at least 4.5 gallons, glow
plugs.
• Power Output: Rated 125 KVA, 3 phase, 60 hertz, 1800 RPM, 120/208-240-480 voltc.81 `

• Control Panel: The panel will be mounted on the generator with following, Voltmeter,
AC voltmeter changeover switch four positions, Ammeter, AC Ammeter change over
switch four position. Voltage adjust rheostat obtainable voltages should include 208,
240, 416, 480 volts. Pilot lamp for AC power. Frequency meter, hour meter, engine
tachometer, engine coolant temperature gauge, charging ammeter for charging generator,
and engine oil pressure gauge
Generator Output Circuit Breaker: Main line molded thermal magnetic circuit breaker
rated for 200 amps.
Voltage Selector Switch: 180 degree 3 position type rotary cam switch with single handle
for voltage selection, which shall be 480/277, 240/139 three phases, and 120/240v single
phase.
• Cooling System: The radiator fan shall direct the airflow from the engine outward
through the radiator with vertical discharge.
• Batteries: Shall be SAE type D, diesel engine starting type, minimum of 120-amp hour
rated.
• Exhaust System: Exhaust silencer mounted within enclosure and insulated,flex connector
to allow for vibration and mount rain cap.
• Housing: Weatherproof, completely lockable enclosure designed so the unit can operate
with all doors closed at full load without overheating. Sound attenuated to 67 dBA at 23
feet full load.
• Vibration Isolators: The entire engine-generator set will be mounted on vibration
isolators,which isolate engine-generator vibration from the steel base.

Here is a copy of the P.O. from Polk County for and 80 kW.
The only difference is you will be getting a 120/240 three phase unit,
and the ATS will be 200 amp instead of 400.
