'.1.4.. •. . Our future leaders are taking action in their hometowns to address local needs, and the League wants to help showcase these efforts through its annual community service contest. Overview__ Youth councils are invited to submit current or new youth council projects that address a local need — maybe it's volunteering at a community event, educating your fellow youth or organizing a neighborhood or beach cleanup. The deadline to submit projects is Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Application Rules The application packet must include: A written description, in 500 words or less, that includes: D. What the project entailed. D. Your objectives and if they were met. Describe how. D. Why the project was needed in your community. • How the project helped the residents you served. D. How the project impacted your youth council. Letter of recommendation from the mayor, manager or a member of the council/commission. Up to five photos depicting the event. Your nomination will NOT be scored if missing any of the above. The Florida League of Cities community service contest is open only to youth councils sponsored by a city, town or village government that is a member of the Florida League of Cities. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Judging will be based entirely on the youth council's submitted entry. The judges' decision is final, and all material received becomes the property of the Florida League of Cities, with permission to use it perpetually and universally, in any manner deemed appropriate by the League, with no additional compensation beyond the award money presented to the winner. Submission _ __ _ All work must be submitted through an online form available at flcities.com/youthcouncils. Submissions that are emailed or mailed will not be judged. Announcement of Winners Winners will be announced in April 2021. Five projects will be selected as winners. Winners will: • Be showcased on the League's website and social media platforms. ✓ Be recognized in press announcements and the League's Quality Cities magazine. • Receive a monetary award of $250 and a trophy/plaque. Launched in 2020, the program serves to II IJ�I~` u11V {..I ull 1 • .LI l \.V • I1.11✓ YY ILI I 1..1 1`. "' .1^ digital skills to drive meaningful civic - ^4Oya engagement online. The program consists of 3 workshops where young people in youth councils will: -Learn more about social media tools they can use to engage their communities in their work -Learn digital storytelling skills that inspire communities into action. -Learn how to measure the impact of the work they do on social media and IJI CJCI IL LI III ICQI I III 16D Lk.) IVl Q1 CICI LCu officials in their community. Throughout the program, young people will get opportunities to provide feedback on social media tools, engage in online storytelling, and network with other Youth Councils, if interested. In order to be eligible to participate, youth councils must: -Be working on a specific initiative / issue in their city -Be willing to attend three virtual workshops over the course of 6 months (Dates can be coordinated based on schedules) -Be open to using social media in creative ways To apply to be a part of the pilot program, please fill out the form below. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis in 2021 . The program consists of a series of three workshops that will provide program participants with the skills and resources they need to engage in their communities both online and offline. a Workshop 1: Facebook+ IG tools: Learn about tools to engage your communities in°the work of local government. • Workshop 2: Brainstorming + Content Creation: Learn key components of storytelling and how to bring those stories to life online in order to inspire others to take action. • Workshop 3: Presenting'to City Council + Mayor: Learn how to measure online campaigns and present learnings to local elected officials. The timing for this program is flexible— Facebook will work with your council to set the dates of the program. All meetings take place via zoom.
