06-07-2021 Minutes Minutes of the Citizens Advisory Council for Ocoee Police Department Quarterly Meeting Held on June 7, 2021 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Garone called the meeting to order at 7:03PM, in the Commission Chambers of City Hall located at 150 N. Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee. Member Lewis led the Pledge of Allegiance,there was no invocation. Recording Clerk Serrano called roll and determined a quorum present. Present: Chairperson Garone,Members Lewis, Mann, Braunskill, Brown, Griner, Meeks, Holt, Moyer and Hart. Absent: Members Ball, Lomneck Also present: Sgt. Prince and Recording Clerk Serrano Approval of Minutes from the March 25,2021 Meeting: Member Brown motioned to approve the March 25, 2021, minutes, seconded by Chairperson Garone. The motion carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS: This item was postponed until a later date. 9/11 MEMORIAL EVENT: CACOFD Meeting Report-This item was heard out of Agenda order. Members Meeks and Brown report on their attendance of the CACOFD meeting. That board has no plans for a 9/11 event, and did express support and willingness to working with the CACOPD. Chairperson Garone motioned that he and any available board member attend the June 15, 2021 Commission Meeting, seconded by Member Brown. The motion carried unanimously. Chairperson Garone motioned that the 9/11 Memorial Event take place from 0700-1200, seconded by Member Brown. The motion carried unanimously. Chairperson Garone motioned to create a Subcommittee to consist of Members Mann, Brown, Lewis and Holt, seconded by Member Mann. The motion carried unanimously. Member Moyer motioned that Member Brown head the 9/11 Memorial Event Subcommittee, seconded by Chairperson Garone. The motion carried unanimously. Chairperson Garone motioned that the board meet June 24, 2021 at 7PM, seconded by Member Brown. The motion carried unanimously. Poker/Golf Tournament: This item was postponed to a later date. TREASURER REPORT: Member Griner advised the board of the $577.11 balance. OFFICER AND CIVILIAN OF THE FIRST QUARTER: The board reviewed and discussed the nominations for Officer, and Civilian, of the First Quarter. Chairperson Garone made a motion to award Civilian of the First Quarter to the two individuals who were jointly nominated; and that the board allocate an additional$50 gift card for the second individual, seconded by Member Lewis. The motion carried unanimously. Records Supervisor Ella Wisecup,and former Records Technician Elizabeth McKeever, will be awarded the Civilians of the First Quarter. Chairperson Garone made a motion to award Officer of the First Quarter to the first nominee, seconded by Member Mann. The motion carried by majority 6/4. Agent Ross Addeo will be awarded Officer of the First Quarter. Member Brown made a motion to award Officer of the First Quarter to the second nominee, seconded by Member Meeks. The motion received 4/6 votes. Department Updates/Upcoming Event Sgt. Prince announced the appointment of Assistant Chief Plasencia to Police Chief. Since her appointment the department has been engaging in"Chief's Night Out"and visiting various neighborhoods within the City. He updated the board on the success of the Handgun Safety Class, which has been full each month since it resumed earlier this year. "Coffee with a Cop"will be held June 81h from 9-11AM at the Starbucks on Hwy 50. The previously announced Guardian Program has been launched in honor of Autism Awareness month, individuals with various level of special needs have been enrolled by their family or guardians. Reception of this program has been positive. Sgt. Prince informed the board that the newest group of officers have been sworn in and will be on the road training within the next week. He shared with the board that the agency assisted McCraney Properties with a food drive that provided food to over 900 families. He informed the board that"Casting with a Cop"is back the weekend of June 12th, and the department is providing all the equipment for local kids to enjoy fishing at Starke Lake. Sgt. Prince also announced a new"Safe Traffic Stop"class;training aimed to teach new drivers what to do should they be pulled over.
