PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
REGULAR MEETING HELD ON May 17, 2021
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. Recording Clerk Kim McMillin called
roll and declared a quorum present.
PRESENT: Chair Rainer, Members Graham, Gordon and Sherrall Applegate, and
Maranan.
Also present: Parks and Recreation Director Mark Johnson, Recording Clerk Kim
McMillin, and Ex-Officiant Commissioner Liaison Wilsen.
ABSENT: Members Hassan and Stewart.
B. INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBER
II. NEW BUSINESS
A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Member Graham seconded by Member Sherrall Applegate, made a motion
to accept the minutes of the January 27, 2020, and Member Graham
seconded by Member Gordon Applegate, made a motion to accept the
minutes of the September 21, 2020 meeting. The motions passed
unanimously.
B. Updates on parks, capital projects including Montgomery-Dog Park, and
programs/events
Director Johnson announced the ongoing capital improvement projects at
Montgomery Park-Dog Park and the playground are complete. Most of the work
was completed by Parks staff to save money. The artificial synthetic turf was
installed at Vandergrift Central Park. The concession stand and restroom
renovations will be in construction at Sorenson Fields. CPH was hired to
develop a standard design for the city. The cemetery will get a new
columbarium for niches. Private swim lessons are full, and the group lessons
have openings. Summer camp is full with 80 registered kids and a waiting list.
Youth basketball is full with 180 registered kids. May 27th is the Ribbon Cutting
at Montgomery Park-Dog Park. May 29th is the Religious Event. July 17th is the
Family Fun Day at the recreation center.
