and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB)
Background Summary:
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, at their Regular Meeting held on March 21, 2022,
discussed naming the park located on Franklin Street and currently under construction as "Unity
Park". A motion was made to have Member Lomneck present the recommendation before the City
Commission for consideration and/or approval. There is currently no policy in place for the naming
of parks. City staff is working on a Parks naming policy, which will come before the City Commission
at a future meeting.
Issue:
Should the City Commission approve the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board's recommendation
of naming the Franklin Street park "Unity Park"?
Recommendation:
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommends the City Commission consider the
approval of naming the Franklin Street park "Unity Park".

PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
REGULAR MEETING HELD ON March 21,2022
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:06 p.m. Recording Clerk Kim McMillin called
roll and declared a quorum present.
PRESENT: Chair Rainer, Members Gordon and Sherrall Applegate, Salhab,
Hassan, and Lomneck.
Also present: Commissioner Liaison Wilsen, Parks and Recreation Director Mark
Johnson, and Recording Clerk Kim McMillin.
ABSENT: Graham.
The below is an excerpt from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Held on
March 21, 2022.
II. OTHER BUSINESS
Member Lomneck suggested to name the park located at Franklin Street as
Unity Park. He further requested to be appointed to speak on behalf of the
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at the next City Commission Meeting, if
supported by the board, to suggest the naming. A brief discussion ensued
detailing the park features.
Motion: to approve Member Lomneck to present the recommendation of
naming the Franklin Street park "Unity Park" to the City Commission:
moved by Member Lomneck, seconded by Member Gordon Applegate.
The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:17 PM.
