03-21-2022 Minutes MINUTES OF THE OCOEE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING HELD ON March 21,2022 I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order in the Commission Conference room at 6:06 p.m. Recording Clerk Kim McMillin called roll and declared a quorum present. PRESENT: Chair Rainer, Members Gordon and Sherrall Applegate, Salhab, Hassan, and Lomneck. Also present: Commissioner Liaison Wilsen, Parks and Recreation Director Mark Johnson, and Recording Clerk Kim McMillin. ABSENT: Member Graham. The below is an excerpt from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Held on March 21, 2022. II. NEW BUSINESS A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Member Sherrall Applegate seconded by Member Gordon Applegate, made a motion to accept the minutes of the March 21, 2022 meeting. The motion passed unanimously, B. UPDATES ON PAST/UPCOMING PROGRAMS/EVENTS: Music in the Park-March Block Party on March 18th partnered with Toll Road Brewery located downtown on McKey Street and had a positive turnout. The Recreation Department plans to host Cinco de Mayo on May 6th and partner with Toll Road Brewery again. The Spring Fling Event was postponed until March 2023 due to the unknowns of Covid-19. The Music Festival 2022 being held on April 8th and 9th will have several head liner performers, marketplace vendors, and a smaller carnival ride area. The 5K race on April 9th has over 200 people registered and is projected to have more as last minute registrations will attend the morning of the event. The Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt on April 15th will be held inside the Jim . Beech Recreation Center. Last year was the first year for this event and since it was successful it wil be planned as an annual event. The Easter coloring contest was cancelled and, like the previous year was replaced with the ceramic Easter eggs. The pool opens on May 7th. Summer Camp begins on May 31st with a maximum capacity of 100-150 attendees. Parks and Recreation Advisory Board September 20, 2021 Minutes The upcoming Capital Projects to be completed include the following areas: The Wedding Garden will have Astro turf installed in place of grass. The Jim Beech Recreation gymnasium floors will be resurfaced.. Tiger Minor Park will get new tennis courts, updated restrooms, and other items. Vandergrift Central Park will get a Skate Park in place of the old tennis courts, and was chosen for this new use as it has easy access for riders to get to safely. Hackney Prairie Lake Park will get a Frisbee Park due to its open areas of land which have been cleared. Montgomery Dog Park will have a fence installed to deter sports teams from playing on the open field as it was designed for pets only. III. OTHER BUSINESS A. Member Lomneck seconded by Member Sherrall Applegate, made a motion to Amend the HighLIGHTing Ocoee sign budget from $500.00 to $514.39 (actual amount spent). The motion passed unanimously. B. Member Lomneck requested an update on the Park naming guidelines. Director Johnson state he was currently working to get this completed then approved. Member Lomneck suggested to name the park located at Franklin Street as Unity Park. He further requested to be appointed to speak on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at the next City Commission Meeting, if supported by the board, to suggest the naming. A brief discussion ensued detailing the park features. Motion: to approve Member Lomneck to present the recommendation of naming the Franklin Street park "Unity Park" to the City Commission; moved by Member Lomneck, seconded by Member Gordon Applegate.
