09-19-2022 Minutes Minutes of the Advisory Board for Parks & Recreation Department Regular Meeting Held on September 19, 2022 CALL TO ORDER: Member Gordon Applegate called the meeting to order at 6:09 PM, in the Parks &Recreation Annex Building, located at 175 N. Bluford Avenue in Ocoee, FL. Recording Clerk McMillin called roll and determined a quorum present. Present: Members Gordon and Sherrall Applegate, Graham, Moyer, and Salhab Absent: Chairperson Rainer,Members Hassan, and Lomneck Also present: Commissioner Wilsen, Dan Abdo, and Recording Clerk McMillin NEW BUSINESS: WELCOME New Member, Jim Moyer. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE March 21, 2022, SPECIAL MEETING: Member S.Applegate made a motion to approve the March 21,2022, minutes; seconded by Member Graham. The motion carried unanimously. UPDATE OF EVENTS Dan Abdo announced the Music Festival dates will be in March. Member Moyer inquired about the parks signs which Dan Abdo clarified and provided handouts. An email from Toren Hogan was distributed for upcoming events by Parks and Recreation, and the members were asked if -they would like to attend or volunteer. Santa and Mrs. Claus (volunteered by Member Sherrall Applegate)will be at the Holiday Block Party on December 10, 2022. Member S.Applegate announced she attended the 2021 Holiday Events, was very pleased to have participated, and happy with the positive feedback. OTHER BUSINESS Member S.Applegate made a motion to reschedule the November 21,2022, meeting to November 14, 2022 due to Thanksgiving Holiday, seconded by Member Graham. The motion carried unanimously. Member Salhab made a motion for the HighLIGHTing Ocoee Signs budget not to exceed 800.00, seconded by Member Graham. The motion carried unanimously. HighLIGHTing Ocoee dates will be December 12, and 14, 2022, for the drive along on the recreation bus to judge the best holiday lights from 6:00— 8:00 pm. Member Moyer inquired if Youth Basketball is twice a year for summer and winter, and if the first game will be in January. Member Gordon Applegate inquired if the Jim Beech _ Gymnasium will get new flooring. Dan Abdo gave a general update on both questions. More updates will be provided at the next meeting. Member Sherrall Applegate announced the Karate program celebrated its 40 year anniversary, and The West Orange Times ran an article to acknowledge it as one of the longest running programs. Member Moyer inquired about the Tom Ison Senior Center for updates on the demo which started on the kitchen and flooring. SET NEXT AGENDA A. Election of Vice Chair B.
