Background Summary:
Members of the Human Relations Diversity Board serve two -year terms. Currently, the Human Relations Diversity
Board has eight (8) members and their resolution allows no Tess than seven (7) members and no more than fifteen
(15) members. One application was received from Ms. Patricia Cornell with an interest in serving on the board.
Issue:
Should the honorable Mayor and City Commission appoint Ms. Patricia Cornell to the Human Relations Diversity
Board with a term ending May 2013.
Recommendations
The City's Human Relations Diversity Board is recommending that the City Commission appoint Ms. Patricia
Cornell to the Human Relations Diversity Board with term ending May 2013.

RE: Summary of Qualification and Experience
In reference to the "Application for Serving on City Boards ", I am attaching this information for your
consideration.
I have lived in the City of Ocoee for 30 years and also worked for the City's government for 10 years
wherein I retired in November of 2007. I have always been a strong supporter of community service and
remain active in that commitment today. Currently, I am serving as the Treasurer for the Carriage Oaks
HOA and have been in this position for approximately 8 years.
In addition to the above, I have held a Notary commission from the State of Florida since 1982 and my
status is current. Enclosed you will find certificates which support the information relayed above; they
are:
1. Four year Certification of Appreciation for Contributions to the City of Ocoee's General
Employees Retirement Trust Fund.
2. Recognition from the Orange County Public Schools for volunteering time to assist students in
reading programs.
3. Certificate of Appreciation and Recognition for the Founder's Day Festival.
4. Certificate from the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Florida regarding Crime
Prevention in Black Communities —15 contact hours.
5. Kind and Caring Award from the City of Ocoee for efforts in teaching the GED program to
employees. (I continued to teach this program for three additional years to family members of
employees and the general Ocoee community at the Adair Street Community Building.)
It is my desire to be active as a board member in either the CACOPD or the Human Relations Diversity
Board. Providing that there would be no conflict of meeting times and dates I would consider serving on
both of these boards, as indicated by the certifications and recognitions, this is where my community
interests lie.

Judy Henry, Executive Secretary shared information with me concerning the above
employee. As a matter of fact, she was definitely bragging about her. I thought I would
bring this to your attention.
It appears that Ms. Cornell, on her own, has taken the time to work with members of your
department in coaching them with class studies in assisting these individuals in obtaining
High School Diplomas. She is doing it all on her own time. Ms. Cornell is a very special
person and certainly cares about people.
You have always believed in education and I believe Ms. Cornell feels that it is also
important. I have attached a newspaper article from the Sentinel dated May 9, 1998
which supports your own phylisophy.
I applaud Ms. Cornell, Ms. Henry for bragging and you for believeing in the education
process.
