Subject: Approval to Expend Forfeiture Monies for Law Enforcement Related Uses
Background Summary:
Per Florida State Statutes 932.7055 "...any local law enforcement agency that acquires at least $15,000 pursuant
to the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act within a fiscal year must expend or donate no less than fifteen (15)
percent of such proceeds for the support or operation of any drug treatment, drug abuse education, drug
prevention, crime prevention, safe neighborhood, or school resource officer program. The Ocoee Police
Department recommends expending monies from its forfeiture fund to law enforcement related uses as follows:
$3,000 for the City of Ocoee Annual Spring Fling event. The Spring Fling showcases the City of Ocoee as well
as other governmental and non profit organization services with special focus on crime prevention and safety.
Food and activities are also provided free of charge to attendees.
Issue:
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the Police Department
to expend $3000 from its Police forfeiture fund to the Annual Spring Fling event?
Recommendations:
It is recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the Police Department
to expend $3000 from its Police forfeiture fund to the Annual Spring Fling event.
