Background Summary: An employee in the Police Department has agreed to settle current and future worker's compensation claims for $24,500. The employee would not seek future benefits under the Florida Statues and Collective Bargaining Agreement. The employee would be placed on an inactive status and end employment with the City permanently after the Pension Board considers a disability pension. Issue: By accepting the settlement amount reflected the employee will waive any present and future claims concerning workers' compensation and will resign from employment with the City. This will minimize and contain future costs to the City. Due to the medical and confidentiality issues involved, a copy of the settlement agreement cannot be included with this item. Recommendations: Staff respectfully recommends the Commission approve the terms of the agreement and authorize the Mayor and City Manager to execute the agreement. Attachments: None Financial Impact: Settlement of $24,500 plus approximate $7,500 in employee's attorney fees, not to exceed $32,000.
