2006-005 In Support for "COUNT ME IN!"
RESOLUTION NO. 2006-005
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA,
ENDORSING AND MAKING KNOWN ITS SUPPORT FOR
"COUNT ME IN!" PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, The mission of the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools; Inc. is to engage
the community in providing resources and programs to ensure student achievement throughout the
District; and
WHEREAS, The Foundation is launching a long-term, grassroots, citizens-engagement initiative
called "Count Me In!" to amass the collective voices of citizens and community leaders in an effort to
reconnect the people of Orange County to its public schools and to enable greater levels of citizen
involvement; and
WHEREAS, Nearly 1,000 citizens revealed their hopes, dreams, values, struggles, and what they
envision for stronger community involvement in the public school system; and
WHEREAS, A diverse citizens panel convened, continued these conversations and drafted "Our
Community Agreement" - a document that reflects the citizens desires, identifies obstacles that must be
overcome, and presents ideas for strengthening our community and for reconnecting to public
institutions; and
WHEREAS, "Our Community Agreement" serves as a roadmap to verify that decisions made
for our schools and communities and reflects the collective citizens vision and hopes; and
WHEREAS, The Foundation serves as the guardian of "Our Community Agreement" to ensure
the voice of Orange County citizens is heard; and
WHEREAS, The Foundation will work with citizens on long-term actions that will build and
reconnect their relationships within OCPS that enhance student achievement and the overall quality of
life;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OCOEE, FLORIDA, hereby endorses and makes known its support of "Count Me In!" and
our "Community Agreement;" The City of Ocoee will be a partner of "Count Me In!" to reconnect
citizens and their public schools.
Further: The City of Ocoee urges the support of and involvement of all citizens with "Count Me In!"
and "Our Community Agreement".
