11-13-14 Minutes a ' MINUTES OF THE CITIZEN ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR THE OCOEE FIRE DEPARTMENT MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 13, 2014 CALL TO ORDER Member Vaughn conducted the meeting and called the meeting to order at 7:01 pm in the Station 25 Training Room located at 563 South Bluford Avenue. Recording Secretary Hall called roll and declared a quorum was present. PRESENT: Members: Chairman Vaughn, Titus, Channell, Carbone, Hodge and Acting Fire Chief Hoover Member Richardson arrived at 7:10 ABSENT: Commissioner Johnson and Member Lawrie. GUEST (S) None Approval of Minutes: August 14, 2014 minutes were approved. Motion by Channel) seconded by Hodge carried 6 -0 Member Richardson arrived at 7:10. Pledge of Allegiance Old Business: - Chairman Vaughn wanted to discuss the open house and asked Member Titus about the event she let everyone know there wasn't a lot of attendance by the public. Also we did not get enough publication or word out about the open house like we did for Station 25's open house. Member Titus also wanted to thank Shawn for cooking for everyone. Chairman Vaughn brought up Founders Day and that he had to cancel participation in the event. New Business - Chairman Vaughn discussed our Ride -A -Long program and how the members can ride with an engine for a day or part of a day to see what goes on at the station and on calls. Chief Hoover explained a little about the ride -a -long program and how it works. Chief Hoover brought up the Citizens Public Safety Academy that it is 10 weeks every Wednesday night and it goes back and forth between police and fire. Chairman Vaughn added that it is a great opportunity to see how the departments work together and how everything works. Chairman Vaughn discussed Operation Santa and it would be a good opportunity to go out and ride on the float and help out and have a good time. The nights would be December 2, 4, 8, 10, 16 and 18. Chairman Vaughn discussed the Christmas Parade that will be on December 6 at 1:00pm and that the members may be able to participate in the parade too. Chairman Vaughn asked Chief Hoover to give a brief of the department and what may be going on. Chief Hoover let everyone know that the consolidation did not go through. He also noted that the budget went Minutes of Citizen Advisory Council for Ocoee Fire Department November 13, 2014 through and that we were able to reduce our budget by $150,000.00, also, that in the budget was for a new engine. He also let the members know that the Fire Chiefs position was posted but no decision was made yet. The city has also posted for the two firefighter positions and the fire inspector's position. Chairman Vaughn asked if the opening was just for Firefighter /Paramedics the Chief told him no it was opened up to Firefighter /EMT's also. Chief let the members know that the inspector will be going through the same testing as the firefighters. Member Titus stated the she didn't know if there was a way to make a recommendation to the City Manager about keeping Chief Hoover as the Fire Chief. Chairman Vaughn suggested everyone go to their commissioner and voice their opinion on the Fire Chiefs position. Chairman Vaughn would like to see everyone go out and recruit members for the committee. Chairman Vaughn mentioned that October was Fire Prevention month. Member Titus asked about any retirements and Member Vaughn stated that he already had Lt. Fulmer's statue and that there maybe a couple more next year. Member Vaughn stated that we would need to purchase more statues for the retirements and that we also already have some statues for the firefighter of the year. Motion by Member Titus seconded by Member Richardson to purchase more retirement statues Motion carried 6 -0 Member Titus asked about an open house at Station 39 and Member Vaughn stated that he would like to hold off on that. Chief Hoover stated that maybe we should concentrate on having them when it's cooler and one a year. Other — SET NEXT AGENDA: Date will be February 12, 2015 at 7:OOpm A.
