PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
REGULAR MEETING HELD ON January 26, 2015
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting came to order at 6:07 PM in the Community Center, 125 N. Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee, FL 34761. The roll
was called and a quorum was declared at that time.
PRESENT: Chairman Rainer, Vice Chair Lewis, Members McKey, Hudson, Singrey, Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hayes
(Director Hayes), Ex- Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen and Sr. Administrative Assistant Dottie Godek.
ABSENT: Members Applegate (absent excused) and Barber (absent excused)
GUESTS: None
A Approval of Minutes
Member McKey, seconded by Member Barber, moved to accept the regular meeting minutes from the November 17", 2014
meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
B Light Up Ocoee Event
The board had a discussion regarding the future of the event. Chairman Rainer asked everyone to come up with ideas for
change and asked Sr. Administrative Assistant Godek to put the event on the agenda of the September 2015 meeting.
C Spring Fling March 14' 2015
The board asked if volunteers were needed at the event. Director Hayes replied that volunteers were always welcome and
directed Sr. Administrative Assistant Godek to send the board members a reminder about the event.
Member Hudson, seconded by Member Singrey, moved that the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board spend $100.00 on a
bike to be donated at the Spring Fling event. The motion passed unanimously.
D Update on Swim Signs
Currently swimming is permitted in all ponds and lakes on city property with the exception of Lake Moxie at Central Park.
Director Hayes was asked to find out what the liability to the city was if the ponds and lakes were not posted.
E Celebrating Parks
Director Hayes reported that currently trees have been planted at schools and the Ison Center in celebration of Arbor Day
which this year is April 24'h 2015. Member McKey asked if it would be feasible to hold a celebration at the larger parks or
perhaps donate a bench or bike rack. Director Hayes said that July is Parks and Recreation Month and the board
requested that this item be put on the March 16'h 2015 meeting agenda for further discussion.
F Other Business
An update on the Montgomery property was requested. Director Hayes reported that the land is being cleared and future
plans will include an open play area with a backstop, a playground area, picnic sites and a pavilion.
