Subject Approval to donate Ocoee Fire Department extrication equi• ent to the Schley
County Fire and Emergency Services department.
Background Summary:
The Amkus extrication equipment, which includes a power unit, spreaders, cutters, chord reel, and rams was
purchased for the Ocoee Fire Department in 1991. It has since been replaced by newer and upgraded Holmatro
extrication equipment. The Ocoee Fire department would like to assist a county in need by donating our used,
no longer in-use extrication equipment to them.
Issue:
The issue is that on August 3rd, 2015 the Ocoee Fire department was contacted by Chief Montgomery of the
Schley County Fire and Emergency Services department. They are located in Ellaville, Georgia. Chief
Montgomery reached out to us in hopes we would be able to assist his department by donating our no longer in
use extrication equipment. Currently all of the Ocoee Fire Department engines are operating with Holmatro
extrication equipment. The Amkus extrication equipment is no longer in-use and is just being stored at station
25. It would greatly benefit the Schley County Fire Department.
Recommendations
Staff recommends the approval of donating the Amkus extrication equipment to the Schley County Fire
Department.

Financial Impact:
Attempted to trade equipment when we purchased new tools, but the salesman gave it a value of $0. There will
be no financial impact to current budget.

Re: Extrication Equipment
Dear Chief Miller,
Recently it was brought to my attention by Lieutenant James
Kelley that your Department may have some used extrication
equipment that you all my be willing to donate. Our Department
would greatly benefit from such a generous donation. We are a
small Volunteer Department which covers 168 square miles and
currently have one working set of tools. We are trying to outfit a
second pumper to assist with our coverage area. Due to a shortage
of PPE we are having to allocate our money to the purchase of
much needed PPE.
I would again like to thank Ocoee Fire/Rescue for any
assistance that may be available.
