Subject: Approval to purchase an Aero-Clave decontamination unit
Background Summary:
The Ocoee Fire Department is seeking permission to purchase a complete AeroClave Room
Decontamination System, Model #3110. The purchase of this system was included in the current fiscal
year's budget under acct. #6400, Capital Expense. This decontamination system will serve multiple
functions. The new Rescue Unit purchased earlier this year, was equipped with a connection mounted
in the patient care compartment that will allow this decontamination unit to be attached. By attaching
the system to this connection, the patient compartment will be able to be quickly and efficiently
decontaminated. This system is also a portable unit so it can be used inside the living quarters in the
fire department to decontaminate these areas. The system can be used in the decontamination of
bunker gear, as well as decontamination of other infected vehicles such as fire engines, command
vehicles, and police vehicles. During the recent mass-casualty event in Orlando, agencies that owned
this system were able to bring their system to the scene and help decontaminate the vehicles involved
during this event.
Issue:
The issue is that pathogens and other contaminants are everywhere. During any call for emergency
service, the fire departments vehicles, equipment and gear can be contaminated with any number of
these unseen hazards. The AeroClave Decontamination System can be used to help protect
emergency service responders from the hazards of these contaminate. The AeroClave
Decontamination Unit is effective in the elimination of contaminates such as MRSA. E. Coll, Norovirus,
HIV-1, H1 N1, Hepatitis C, Legionella, Pneumophilia, Salmonella, Listeria as well as many
contaminates.
Recommendations:
Staff recommends the approval to purchase the Model #3100 AeroClave Room Decontamination
System, the AeroClave portable applicator and 25' hand sprayer, and (12) cases of Disinfection
Solutions, which comes as 4 one-gallon bottles per case as a sole source provider and equipment
already installed in Rescue 38 will only match up with the equipment furnished with the AeroClave
System.

Financial Impact:
The initial financial impact for the purchase of this system will be $14,990.40. The reoccurring financial
impact will be for the purchasing of additional disinfectant solution. Currently, one case of(4) one-
gallon bottles has a list price of$132.00. The purchasing of additional gallons will vary, depending
upon usage. This is a budgeted item under Capital Improvements.
