09-22-2015 Minutes MINUTES OF THE OCOEE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING HELD ON September 22, 2015 CALL TO ORDER The meeting came to order at 6:10 PM in the Community Center, 125 N. Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee,FL 34761. The roll was called and a quorum was declared at that time. PRESENT: Chairman Rainer,Members Barber, McKey,Maranan, Singrey, Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hayes (Director Hayes),Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen and Sr.Administrative Assistant Dottie Godek. ABSENT: Members Applegate(absent excused) and Lewis(absent excused) GUESTS: None A. Approval of Minutes Member McKey,seconded by Member Applegate, moved to accept the regular meeting minutes from the July 20, 2015 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. B. Arbor Day Ideas C. Director Hayes mentioned that National Arbor Day is April 30, 2016. Member Maranan brought an idea for a craft: a Florida version of a lei using native flowers. Chairman Rainer suggested planting seedlings in egg cartons. The Board had a discussion regarding ideas for an Arbor Day event but decided to bring the ideas back to the next meeting. Member McKey,seconded by moved to have the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board participate at the Spring Fling event March 12, 2016. The motion passed unanimously. D. Light Up Ocoee Light Judging Event The board had a general discussion regarding the Light Up Ocoee light judging event. Member McKey, moved to have the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board scratch the event. The motion died for lack of a second. Member Barber,seconded by Member McKey motioned to table the Light Up Ocoee event until 2016. A vote was called and there were 4in favor and 1 opposed. E. Ocoee Tree Lighting Event Chairman Rainer brought up the idea of having a Gingerbread House contest along with the Children's Craft at the Ocoee Tree Lighting Event. The board had a discussion of the particulars of the Gingerbread House contest. Member McKey seconded by Member Barber made a motion to award 3 prizes of$100.00, $100.00 and$25.00 for the winners of the Gingerbread House contest. The motion passed unanimously. F. Withers-Maguire Gremlin House Chairman Hayes said that there would not be a"gremlin house" at the Withers-Maguire House this year. G. New Business a. Member Maranan asked the progress on the painting of a pickle ball court. Director Hayes said the department is planning to put the lines down. 1 b. Member Barber,seconded by Member McKee made a motion to pay for the new member's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board shirt and pay for one Movie in the Park out of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board's remaining funds. Motion passed unanimously. c. Member McKey,seconded by Member Barber, made a motion to donate the excess thanksgiving crafts to the city's Before/After School program. The motion passed unanimously.
