Westminster Fire Department.
Background Summary:
The public education equipment, which includes a small stage with puppets and 2 costumes, was purchased,
primarily through donations, for the Ocoee Fire Department in 1997. During the first 10 years of service, it was
utilized frequently and very effective in educating the youth of Ocoee. In the last several years, this public
education tool has not been used. Therefore, the Ocoee Fire department would like to assist a volunteer fire
department in need by donating this used public education equipment.
Issue:
The issue is that on February 23, 2017 the Ocoee Fire department was contacted by Chief Smith of the
Westminster Volunteer Fire Department. They are located in Westminster, South Carolina. Chief Smith reached
out to us in hopes we would be able to assist his department by donating our no longer in use public education
equipment. It would greatly benefit the Westminster Fire Department.
Recommendations
Staff recommends the approval of donating the Public Education equipment to the Westminster Fire
Department.

in South Carolina. The Westminster Fire Department is a small progressive combination fire
department. We take extreme pride in the various programs that we offer the citizens of our
community. Unfortunately with a small budget some of what we would like to offer and what
we actually can offer is restricted. The safety of our firefighter and our citizens always take top
priority. Our public education is an area that we are continuously striving to expand and improve
on.

information Pete shared with us from Ocoee. It is my understanding that your department is
consistently de\eloping liCk\ public education programs to keep them fresh for youth and adult
audiences. If Ocoee has any educational programs and/or props that are no longer in use and
could be donated,we could certainly put them to great use here in our community in South
Carolina.
