01-23-2017 Minutes MINUTES OF THE OCOEE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING HELD ON January 23rd 2017 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:04 PM in the Lakeshore Center, 125 N. Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee, FL 34761. The roll was called and a quorum was declared at that time. PRESENT: Vice Chair Graham, Members Barber, Singrey, Koontz, and Maranan, , Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hayes (Director Hayes), Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen and Sr. Administrative Assistant Dottie Godek. ABSENT: Member Applegate, Chairman Rainer (excused) and Member McKey (excused) A. Approval of Minutes Member Singrey seconded by Member Barber, made a motion so accept the minutes of the November 14th 2016 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. B. Spring Fling 3/11/17 Member Maranan said that he needed to make one correction to the planting instructions and that closer to the day of the event he will look into the plant choices. When he has decided the city will purchase the plants and other supplies the week of the event. The event times were discussed with the board thinking that two shifts (9:30 AM to Noon and Noon to 3:00 PM) would work best for the volunteers. The following members volunteered: Member Koontz all day Member Barber all day Vice Chair Graham 9:30 AM to Noon C. Light Up Ocoee Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen said that the board did an outstanding job judging the homes that were decorated; several citizens called and said that they appreciated the effort. The board said that they enjoyed doing the event this way and would like to do it the same way in 2017. The board had a discussion regarding the signs for 2017; possibly doing them in a different color with new wording or putting the date on the signs and perhaps having more than 50 signs. Member Barber, seconded by Member Singrey, made a motion that for 2017 the agenda remains the same with more signs, wording/color changes and more nights for judging if needed. The motion passed unanimously. 1 D. Holiday Tree Lighting Event There was a general discussion regarding the various events with some suggestions offered to Director Hayes. Member Koontz said that the craft table was very busy the second half of the evening but there were just a few children prior to the tree lighting. Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen said that the craft table setup might work better with one table to pick out the craft and then have tables down the length of the pre function area for the actual assembly. E. Breakfast with Mrs. Claus After a general discussion the board recommended the possibility of having Mr. and Mrs. Claus both be at the event. Member Singrey, seconded by Member Barber made a motion to bypass the event for 2017. F. Other Business a. Member Singrey asked about the status of Disc Golf: Director Hayes said that there had been no follow up from John Stewart and that he would try to get in touch with him. b. Member Barber asked about Pickle Ball leagues: Director Hayes explained the game and said that there was a court available at Tiger Minor Park but he did not know if there were any leagues. c. Member Barber asked about the Coke Property: Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen stated that the property had been sold. Director Hayes said that there may be a public boat launch but that wouldn't be developed for several years. d. Vice Chair Graham asked about the West Oaks Mall: Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen said that the mall is a private business and is having dialog with the city. e. Member Koontz asked about solar farms: Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen said that one will be up near the Jim Beech center and the other one will be down on Maguire Rd. G.
