Minutes of the Human Relations Diversity Board
Regular Meeting Held August 3, 2017
I:CALL TO ORDER
HRDB meeting was called to order by Chair Crown at 7:12 p.m. in Room 109 at Ocoee City Hall located at 150 North
Lakeshore Drive,Ocoee, Florida.
A. Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Personal Reflection: Member Calloway led the board in the pledge of
allegiance to the U.S.flag;followed by Chair Crown asking that we each take a moment for personal reflection.
B. Roll Call and Determination of Quorum: Bridgett Coffey,Administrative Assistant for Code Enforcement,
performed roll call and determined that there was a quorum (7 ). In attendance at the time meeting was called
to order and roll call was taken were: Members Calloway, Maxwell, Crown, Hershaw, Dawkins, Hart, Brown.
Member Daily arrived @ 7:35p.m.Sgt. Mireya lannuizi Ocoee P.D., Guest:VP NAACP Khalil Osiris arrived @
7:45p.m. Absent were: Members Vines(excused), Bell, Foster, Robinson-Anderson.
C. Review of Excused Absences: Members:Vines(excused absence), Members: Bell, Foster, Robinson-Anderson
are unexcused absences.
D. Review Agenda for Tonight's Meeting: Chair Crown reviewed the agenda for the night.
E. Review of Minutes: None
II:BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION
A. Comments from Citizens/Public: None
B. Budget Report: Staff Liaison Wright reported that as of this month the balance is$ 12,767.70
C. Cemetery: Chair Crown asked the Members to read over the letter to the Ocoee City Commission which was
handed out regarding the August 15 City Commission meeting pertaining to the historical markers. Chair Crown
read text messages from EJI regarding the Ocoee Massacre and Racial Violence in America.Staff Liaison Wright
feels work and changes needed on the wording of the historical marker. Needs truth and closure. Member
Hershaw commented the need to cite and reference on all that will be worded on the marker. Maxwell stated
they can show all documents, need to get artifacts. Chair Crown commented EJI pamphlets will be needed for
August 15 City Commission meeting. Member Maxwell stated he would get them (need 50 per Chair Crown).
Chair Crown stated she will ask the City for two markers. Discussion regarding speakers for the MLK Parade:
Chair Crown stated speaker Will be Ron Blocker former OCPS Superintendent. Members voted on the theme for
the MLK Parade,Theme for the MLK Parade and Black History Month Essay"The Dream Starts With Me".
Motion made by Member Hershaw, 2nd by Member Maxwell.
D. Other Business:Chair Crown stated she received an email from Dr. Kristin Corgdon, EJI, regarding NBC Affiliate
Channel 2,Summer Noles,wants to do a story during 2018 Black History Month regarding the Ocoee Massacre.
E. Set Next Agenda: Chair Crown, along with input from the board, set the agenda for the next meeting,which will
be held on September 7, 2017, said Agenda was established as listed below:
