The City of Ocoee assists DEP in reducing stormwater pollutants through education, sediment control projects and properly designed and constructed development. The DEP has recognized the presence of high levels of phosphates in Lake Apopka, which is included in the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin. In order to address the phosphate issue, DEP established a Basin Working Group, of which Ocoee is a member as the northwest portion of the City is included in the drainage basin. The Group developed a Basin Management Action Plan, which was finalized on June 22, 2006 in draft form. The City's project involvement in the Plan is through the Pioneer Key Regional Stormwater Pond project as funded by DEP. DEP has requested that as an active member of the Basin Working Group, the City execute the attached Statement of Commitment to show our support for the adoption of this Basin Management Action Plan which will lead to the reduction of pollutants in Florida water bodies.
