Item II (A-5) Presentations and Proclamations - October 27 -November 2, 1991 as National Job Skills Week AGENDA 10-1-91 Item II A 5 Ocoee p OP GOO° 111raciamation Kuawj t: WHEREAS, a well-trained, competent workforce is essential for the productivity and quality gains American industry must make to maintain a competitive advantage in the face of unprecedented technological change and foreign competition; and WHEREAS, formal and informal training on the job contributes more significantly than any other factor to developing employee competence; and WHEREAS, National Job Skills Week is an annual campaign to promote awareness about the importance of public and private workplace training; WHEREAS, American companies need to invest more in training; and WHEREAS, the American Society for Training and Development is launching TRAIN AMERICA'S WORKFORCE-PUT QUALITY TO WORK, an information and action campaign to make training a national priority; and WHEREAS, this campaign will be carried on in Ocoee, Florida, as well as throughout the nation: 011erPfore: I, Lester Dabbs, Jr., by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Ocoee, Florida, do hereby proclaim October 27 - November 2, 1991 as NATIONAL JOB SKILLS WEEK in the City of Ocoee, Florida, to draw public attention to the significance of training on the job, to the work of professionals in this field, and to the advantages that training brings to workers.
