RE: LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH FLORIDA TELEPHONE CORPORATION AND
SUBSEQUENTLY WITH UNITED TELEPHONE OF FLORIDA
The License Agreement as entered into on July 6 , 1972 , runs for a
period of twenty ( 20 ) years . Based upon the City Charter Article
II , Section 8 . Franchises, a public hearing is required with at
least 30 days notice of the hearing in a generally circulated
publication once a week for four consecutive weeks . In order to
complete the review of the new agreement and to advertise properly
without the City' s forfeiting the 1% revenue or the telephone
company losing the right to maintain or expand its system, a ninety
day extension of the current agreement is being requested by City
Staff . The telephone company has been notified and agrees to work
with staff on its completion within the 90-day time frame .
Action Requested
The Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the
ninety-day extension of the July 6 , 1972 License Agreement with
Florida Telephone Corporation and subsequently with United
Telephone of Florida and authorize staff to prepare the necessary
document and advertise accordingly.
