PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
REGULAR MEETING HELD ON January 22, 2018
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. in the Lakeshore Center, 125 N. Lakeshore Drive,
Ocoee, FL 34761. The roll was called and a quorum was declared at that time.
PRESENT: Vice-Chairman Graham, Members Applegate, Barber, McKey, Maranan and
Koontz, Also present were Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hayes (Director Hayes), Ex-
Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen and Senior Administrative Assistant
Dottie Godek.
ABSENT: Chairman Rainer (absent excused)
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS AND VISITORS: None
A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Member Barber seconded by Member McKey made a motion to accept the minutes of the
November 13, 2017 meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
B. SPRING FLING
Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen reported that Spring Fling will be held at
Bill Breeze Park on March 10th 2018. She said that it was up to the board if they wanted to do
something at the event. It was reported that the Spring Fling Committee is looking into new and
different activities for the children. Member Maranan reported that he will going to look into
getting seedlings for the Board to hand out. It was also suggested that small paper bags be
purchased and labels printed to hand out along with the seedlings. Member Maranan will make
handouts with information regarding the seedlings.
Member McKey, seconded by Member Applegate, made a motion to purchase bags and labels
for the Spring Fling event, not to exceed$300.00. The motion passed unanimously.
C. EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA
The date for the coloring contest judging will be Friday 3/30/18 - available members are to meet
at the Jim Beech Center at 5:00 PM,
D. Arbor Day 4/27/18
Director Hayes said that traditionally the Parks and Recreation Department has done a picnic for
the Senior Group in conjunction with a tree planting. The Board expressed an interest in planting a
tree and placing a plaque in memory of Wendell Singrey. It was mentioned that Patty Singrey
should be invited to the ceremony which will be held on April 19th 2018 at approximately
noon.
Member Barber, seconded by Member McKey made a motion to purchase a tree and
plaque in honor of Wendell Singrey to be placed at the Tom Ison Center, the amount of
which is not to exceed $500.00. The motion passed unanimously.

E. LIGHT UP OCOEE RECAP
Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen said that she had heard good things from
the citizens regarding the event. The Board also said they would like a new design for the 2018
Light Up Ocoee sign.
F. CITY TREE LIGHTING EVENT RECAP
The Board said that the turnout was very good, the table setup and totes used this year were
perfect and that they shut down the event so everyone was able to see the tree lighting.
G. OTHER BUSINESS
Member Koontz asked if there was going to be a replacement sign on Silver Star Road directing
traffic to Central Park. There had been a brown one by Spring Street but it was taken down during
road work. Director Hayes said that he would look into it.
Member Barber asked about Disc Golf - Director Hayes said he hasn't heard back.
Member McKey asked about the resurfacing of the tennis courts at Tiger Minor Park.
Director Hayes reported that the tennis courts along with the parking lot off Butterfly Court will
be resurfaced in conjunction with the Public Works Department. Member McKey also asked about
the dip in the tennis court. Director Hayes said that there was a report done and they are trying
to find an answer to the problem.
Director Hayes said that Montgomery Park will be adding off street parking, a walkway, a small
pavilion and some improvements to the open play area. That is all that the FRDAP
Grant will allow at this time.
