PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
REGULAR MEETING HELD ON September 17, 2018
CALL TO ORDER:
Due to a malfunction of the air conditioning system at the Withers-Maguire House the Park and
Recreation meeting was moved to the City Hall Annex Building, 150 N. Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee, FL
34761. The meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m. The roll was called and no quorum was declared
at that time.
PRESENT: Chairman Rainer and Member Koontz. Parks and Recreation Acting Director Mark Johnson
and Senior Administrative Assistant H. Kim McMillin, and Ex-Officio Member Commissioner Rosemary
Wilsen.
ABSENT: Vice-Chairman Graham, Member Applegate and Member Maranan (Absent Excused)
Introduction of newly appointed staff: Park and Recreation Acting Director Mark Johnson, Senior
Administrative Assistant H. Kim McMillin and Ex-Officio Member Commission Rosemary Wilson.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. No quorum; Minutes from 3/19/18 and 5/21/18 meetings will be reviewed at the next meeting.
B. Haunted House: Volunteers are encouraged, and it was confirmed there will be bounce houses.
C. Founders Day: Friday is sold out. Saturday has 50 tickets remain.
D. Tree Lighting Event: Members questioned if new signs had been ordered. They also requested a
balance of the 2017-2018 budget.
E. Christmas Parade: Currently canceled due to construction, breakfast with Santa may occur.
PARK PROJECT UPDATES:
Parks and Recreation Recently Completed Projects:
Russell Park: New playground installed, and the park was renamed "Frank W. Turner".
Vignetti Park: Three new playground structures and one 30' X 30' pavilion were installed.
Montgomery Park: A pavilion, sidewalk, and parking lot were installed; playground coming in 2019.
Coming Soon:
Playgrounds: Palm Park and Coventry Park will be getting a new playground soon.
Jim Beech Rec Center: The Aquatic Center will be getting a new spray feature in the pool.
Restrooms: Vignetti Park and Sorenson Park restrooms will soon be remodeled.
QUESTIONS/COMMENTS:
Member Jacqueline Koontz will not be reappointed.
